SWAN BC Jan 6
A perfect night for bowls as we play at one of the oldest bowling clubs in Perth. It is our first game back after the Christmas break.
A big night for our club and our quartet of Rowlinsons as we play for the The ROWLINSON Family Trophy. Hospitality at the Swan club is second to none, with a sausage sizzle to welcome all bowlers to the club.
The greens are likely to be slow as there has been a change in the greenkeeper due to them not being in that great of condition. 24 players took to the green with a team of Forrestfield players assisting the swan team. A lot of comradery was evident across the green with quite a few of us being ex swan or current swan bowlers.
On the majority of rinks the police had the ascendency and ended up with 5 rink win to 1 and the aggregate was 117-65.
Brooke as the representative of the family had the honour of giving the trophy to the police for the 4th time in a row.
What made the night even more special was that the winningest rink for the police was the Rowlinson Quartet of Darren, Dylan, Kerry and Garry.
With this many Rowlinsons in the house the biggest surprise was them not winning any of the raffles.
Our wine Giverawayerers was unfortunately Scott, Ron, Terry and Lesley.

Emergency Services Nov 25
Again we come to Innaloo to take on the Firies still being run by the vibrant Vic who is an amazing 95 and this day was his 75th wedding anniversary. What a great achievement on both counts and a big congratulations on behalf of us all.
The numbers were down on the Firies this year with late withdrawals from their team which saw us play 20 people against 18 on 5 rinks. (Big thankyou to the WAPBC players who sat out on short notice). The Innaloo surface was pretty tricky last night but the match was played in great spirit of camaraderie between the two emergency service agencies.
It was a fairly competitive game with FESA winning 3 rinks to our 2 but unfortunately we had a couple of big losses which saw the Firies come up with a comfortable 22 shot aggregate win to retain the Trophy. Unfortunately the power of having three bowls paid dividends to the Firies and a little bit of luck as well (which will have occasionally)

Our wine giverawayerers were Dave, Jeff, Egon and Michael.
Our winningest rink was Corny, Kerry H, Bill and Lesley who gracefully accepted the two bottles of wine.

Belmont Nov 18
We return to belmont for the second year to play for the jim Thompson Trphy, which corny forgot last year but had brought it this year all polished and ready to go.
Our numbers were strong but unfortunately Belmont numbers were not, but it was great to see the Little's in their Belmont club colours making up the numbers for Belmont. Unfortunately for them a fine was going to be in order.
With our additional 8 players we also held a Police vs Police - who playing out a very friendly but competitive game. We were uncertain right up until game time as to how many Belmont were going to have so I was reluctant to ask people to stand aside earlier in the day which meant we had 8 extra players. Everyone accepted their roles last night even though they didn’t get to contribute to aggregate win or have an opportunity to compete for any of the rink prizes, As a thankyou - I will be donating a bottle of wine for one player from each rink – to be randomly drawn at our next game. I left the card for this game at home this morning so I wont be able to post the score till later this evening but I do know the Police won !!
It was a very close game throughout most of the night and with about 2 ends to go across the green the aggregate was level. Everyone knuckled down and we managed some big numbers in the final ends to pull away for the win. The battle for the bottles of wine also came down to a tight finish with the successful rink picking up a 5 and then a 6 on the last 2 ends to pinch it by a single shot).
WAPBC 80 (3.5 rinks)

Belmont also put on an extra bottle of wine for a random lead/2nd/3rd/skipper with both clubs winning 2 each. I think our winners were Lesley and Arthur.
Belmont won both bottles in the raffle and also provided us with a sausage sizzle. Most clubs we play against make a real effort to make us feel welcome and look after us and Belmont were no exception - it was very much appreciated.
Gosnells Nov 12
A warm and occasionally windy evening at Gosnells on Wednesday night. Fielding a relatively inexperienced side we started slowly against Gosnells but improved greatly as the night went on and we ran out quite comfortable winners in the end.
WAPBC 114 (3 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss)
Gosnells 85 (1 win, 2 draws, 3 losses)
It was great to see so many of our newer members on the green, including brand new member Barry Mitcheson. A lot of these members are fairly new to the game and/or don’t play pennants and to see the improvement in these players was very pleasing. For various reasons this season a lot of our experienced back-end players have been unavailable and there has been a lot of juggling of rinks/positions to ensure our newer bowlers get some mentoring and support from a wide range of our longer standing bowlers as we come up against seasoned pennant bowlers from other clubs. Last nights result was a fair reward for the effort by everyone wearing the black and gold and I am looking forward to everyone continuing to encourage and support each other as the season progresses.

Leeming Oct 28
Well another visit to Leeming, home of quite a few Police BC members there are now too many to list.
Another difficult night for the Police at Leeming last night. On a tricky green that quickened up as the night cooled down, we started reasonably well but fell away. There were a couple of close rinks that we almost got over on, but in the end the might of Leeming won the night, and recorded a comfortable
129 (6 rinks) to 103 (1 rink) victory.
Our wine giverawayerers were tied but on a count back lost were terry, Julie, Rob and Dave.
Our best performing rink was Mike Carey, Jeff, Jenni and Bill.

Rossmoyne Oct 22
Again we travel to one of the nicest clubs on our calendar. The turn out for this game from both clubs is tremendous. A big thankyou again to Rossmoyne for providing the sausage sizzle prior to the game.
8 Rinks apiece took to the undercover facilities. The surface is fast but the weather conditions at each end is chalk and cheese. Away from the club house the breeze is ice cold and the clubhouse end is summer weather.
As the games commenced it was apparent early that Rossmoyne were going to have the ascendency tonight. Over the majority of rinks we were only up on two and the others were quite heavily down. A mini fight back across a couple of rinks brought the score to a more respectable level.
In the end a resounding win to the Rossmoyne Club 134-104 (6.5 rinks to 1.5) to win the trophy for the first time in quite a while. Congratulations to Rossmoyne for the win and as always we will be like Arnold Schwarzenegger...i'll be back.
Obviously the world is out of balance as a feat unheard of in the real world since the dawn of time, Wayne Olive won the wine for the third time in a row ..yes i said third time. Congratulations to Wayne, Wayne M, Margret and Shaun Figgy Peters.
At the other end of the scale and funnily enough at the other end of the green was our wine giverawayerers of Al Booth, Rob, Matt W and Billy Little, they did a play a strong team too.

Ellenbrook Sept 30
A great night at Ellenbrook last night where we competed for the Peter Walsh Trophy. As current holders the pressure was on us to perform against an always competitive home team. We started the night two players short but our hosts kindly lent us a couple of bowlers. Both were fairly new to the game but bowled really well for the black and gold and helped us achieve a fairly comfortable victory. The rink results were fairly close but some big scores ensured the aggregate win was comprehensive. A shout out to Kerry Hutch who put her body on the line (literally). Kerry copped a whack from a big Ellenbrook drive and even got a fine at the end of the night for her troubles !! Kerry didn't dispute the outcome - she knew she didn't have a leg to stand on !! Kerry Rowlo also had a fun night, at one point nailing 3 touchers in a row - I'm pretty sure Dave Hitchman is buying a new Toucha spray this week. To round out a wonderful night for our ladies - Tanya Belcher put on an outstanding display of Leading out on Rink 7 resulting in the Ellenbrook skip threatening to quit bowls if he ever had to play against Tanya again (He played against Tanya in the Past presidents game and couldn't believe his bad luck in drawing her again !!!)
Following the game we had some great laughs and fellowship with President Rob making a fine speech in regard to the Peter Walsh Trophy and Peter himself responding with very nice words of his own. A boisterous fine session followed with some handy $$$ raised for Legacy and the locals went home with the consolation of winning both the Scotch and the Bourbon.
I know it is a long way to travel for many of our members but it really is a highlight of our season going to Ellenbrook - thankyou to everyone who came along and helped us to a great win.
Giving of the wine away was a very close affair between Corny's and Dave's team. On the very last end Dave was down 5 and going to give the wine away, but a miraculous bowl from Dave moved the kitty and a huge cheer was heard from his team, but a resounding boo was heard from a nearby rink with a come-on Ellenbrook from the same vicinity. As a result the certain unnamed skipper was given a Legacy fine by an unforgiving colleague.
In the end Corny, Brett, Egon and Helen gave the wine away.
For the second week in a row our best performing rink was again Wayne Olive, life membership must be inspiring him to greatness, ably supported by Hutchy, Mark (this winning is easy) and local Shaun (Figgy).

Past Presidents Sept 23
Was an absolutely magnificent night, the slightest of breezes and the great company of the PP's.
It was great to see their numbers increasing and able to put out 22 players. Some new faces and some of the ladies and gentlemen that have been stalwarts of their club.
Due to traffic issues a new selector was put in place for the teams in none other than President Rob, more will be said about this later.
The game got underway with 6 rinks, 1 game of triples.
it was fairly even through the match, at one point our three losing rinks were down by 8 each. With none other than Rob's triples ahead.
in the end a few rinks got away from us, and we only had one good winning rink, guess who's.
The final score ended up 105-90. I think that is the first time that anyone can remember that Past Presidents have won., but congratulations to them as they won 3.5 rinks to our 2.5.
Great fellowship after the game with party pies and the selling of all raffle tickets.
our best winning rink was none other that Wayne, Rob and Tanya. So Rob picked himself a jet side, he did say he had Wayne..but as we know he either wins or gives it away...so 50/50 chance.
our wine giverawayerers was Dave, Kerry H, Ralph and Kiera.
We may have to ban Tanya as she has now won the raffle twice and a bottle of wine...

THORNLIE Sept 16
Our hosts were the Thornlie Ravens the home of Ralph, Lesley, Julie and Darryl (or now known as David).
A sausage sizzle was available to players before the game and the usual spread of food by Pav and his crew after was delicious and much appreciated.
It is a special night as we play for the Peter Ball trophy, special guest Insp Kareene Santoro who worked with Peter before he tragically lost his life whilst on duty shared the lead role with Lesley and I can say that there was some potential there, a new recruit in the making perhaps.
Another fresh evening was to be had. Only two brave souls ventured into the green in shorts, but many a beanie was seen.
Most of us got off the green before it started to rain. The greens were quite slick as expected.
The comradery around the green was great to see and lots of enjoyment was had. It was very similar to South Perth in that there were a number of blowouts to both teams and couple of tight contests.
In the end the the scores were WAPBC 99 and Thornlie 99. 3 rink wins each. So a draw was declared. (in ends we won 6 more.) But a fair result on the night.
Kareene spoke on behalf of Lesley and family outlining Peters dedication and his competitive spirit both within the job and in life.
Kareene presented the trophy to Rob Bellis and Thornlie captain Chopper.
Chopper and the crew at Thornlie then donated the raffle money to Police Legacy and Chopper donated another $100 of his own. I big thankyou from all the police family to the crew at Thornlie.
The giver awayerers of the wine was a close affair this week and it came down to percentage as the score difference and ends were the same but in the end it was Mick T, Rob , Ralph and Kerry.
Our best performing rink were Kerry C, Hutchy, Bob and Phil.
Results
Kerry C, Hutchy, Bob and Phil 23-8
Lesley/Kareene, Shaun, John Mawson, Mike C 27-14
Kerry R, Ralph, Rob and Mick T 6-25
Tanya, Darryl, Garry and Wayne 17-18
Harvey, Mark, Kerry H and Corny 19-8
Mal, Trevor Keating, Julie F and Dave 7-26
SOUTH PERTH Sept 10
After a perfect sunny day 28 of us took on the might of the South Perth BC. As always it is a sensational venue for playing bowls. Ryan and his crew there are nothing but superb in facilitating our game. Big thankyou for the roast beef and gravy roll before the game.
Over two greens we had 7 rinks. Their greens are absolutely fabulous, it makes for perfect bowls. There was the slightest breeze but the night got cooler as we progressed. Was great to see that three of us braved the evening in shorts, but many a beanie was seen.
At about midway in the game it was looking quite even, on one green 3 South Perth rinks were up considerably with one WAPBC team in front. On the other green 3 WAPBC teams were in front comfortably.
In the end it was a very tight affair with a lot of scores balancing out each other. We ended up sharing the rinks with Phil drawing against his opponent.
